Favourite Shoes

Like a gambler

Who thought he couldn’t lose

I bet my house and home

As I held a pair of twos.

The dealer said

I’m sorry son but you can’t choose.

I’ve got to take away

Your favourite shoes.

Well I’ve got lots of shoes

I like to wear,

But you know I’ve always had

A very special pair.

They’re the shoes that I use

To dance and play,

Now my favourite shoes

Have walked away.

Favourite shoes,

They walked away.

Favourite shoes,

I hope they’re back one day.

The only reason

That I kneel and pray

Is so my favourite shoes

Might walk my way.

I didn’t take the time

To mend the smallest holes,

I didn’t leave a loving mark

Upon their precious soles.

I stood around

And watched the laces fray

And now my favourite shoes

Have walked away.

Favourite shoes,

They walked away.

Favourite shoes,

I hope they’re back one day.

The only reason

That I kneel and pray

Is so my favourite shoes

Might walk my way.

Maybe sometime soon

Or in a year or more

My favourite shoes

Will come and walk up to my door.

I don’t really know

If they can walk alone,

I hope my favourite shoes

Can make it home.

Favourite shoes,

They walked away.

Favourite shoes,

I hope they’re back one day.

The only reason

That I kneel and pray

Is so my favourite shoes

Might walk my way.

Favourite shoes,

They walked away.

Favourite shoes,

I hope they’re back one day.

The only reason

that I kneel and pray

Is so my favourite shoes

Might walk my way.

Is so my favourite shoes

Might walk my way.
